News: Kevin Devine Memorial Fund
|About Kevin Devine:
Kevin Devine of Mission Viejo, formerly of Bergen County, NJ, passed away in a motorcycle accident on August 13, 2017. Kevin was Vice President, Operations at Brookfield Property Partners in Los Angeles. Prior to moving to California in 2007, he had spent almost his entire career working in building operations in Manhattan.
At the age of 19, he began working as an engineer in Local 94 where he learned the "nuts and bolts" of the buildings. He moved into the management side of the business when he became a Director of Engineering with Devon Properties in 1997. After Devon Properties, he continued to broaden his managerial experience as Director of Operations while working for Alfred Sanzari Enterprises and then Equity Office Properties.
It was in 2007, however, when his personal dream of moving to California with his wife and children was fulfilled and Brookfield Properties, Los Angeles became his professional home. In his ten years in Los Angeles, he not only helped oversee the operations of several of Brookfield's West coast properties, but he also collaborated with the community to increase the implementation of sustainable building operation practices in the greater Los Angeles area.
Even as his position elevated in management, Kevin's heart remained with his roots - the trades, in particular, the stationary engineers. He believed they were the backbone of every building and they had a special place in his kind and humble heart.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 28 years, Peggy, three children whom he adored, Meaghan, Kevin and Christopher, his father Patrick, brothers John and Dan, sisters Rose, Annie, Maureen, and Kathleen, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary and brother-in-law Jim.

About the Fund:
Gifts made to the Kevin Devine Memorial Fund in memory of Kevin Devine are from Employers, Unions, Members, Friends, Relatives and Colleagues associated.
The Fund is a vibrant part of the Operating & Maintenance Engineers Apprenticeship & Training Trust of California as these contributions are relevant for today's Apprenticeship Students as for their predecessors. Kevin was a true pioneer and visionary in the industry. He had a keen interest in the latest technologies to improve the knowledge of all operating engineers.
The Fund offers a unique opportunity for donors to strengthen, maintain and share education and necessities for generations of Engineers through gifts tailored to the interest of education. With the help of our donors, the Fund's growth into a vast resource of equipment, supplies and educational instrument will encompass our best dream of building quality students.
There's a great satisfaction when you donate any resources to the Fund
The Fund's monies are carefully budgeted to acquire educational tools to meet the needs of the facility and the Apprenticeship Students. The fund will use discretionary decisions in combination of The JATC Board of Trustees discussions and approval to make certain how careful the planning, availability, and liquidations process is handled.

Confined Spaces 101 App (Now for Apple and Android)
The IUOE National Training Fund Confined Spaces 101 App is now available for Android users (apple coming soon). OSHA provides guidance on general-industry-related Confined Spaces and Permit-Required Confined Spaces in the form of a decision tree or flow chart. We decided it would be convenient to provide a mobile version with helpful guidance along the way. Please do not confuse the guidance provided here from OSHA 29 CFR §1910.146 for General Industry with the guidance for confined space for Construction (29 CFR §1926.21). The Confined Spaces 101 app is free and available today.

It is no surprise that many of our graduates become leaders in our industry. We have pictures of some of our graduates posted here.
