Los Angeles Trade Technical Community College (LATTC) Apprenticeship Education
February 28, 2018
We would like to take the time to share some valuable information with you in regards to the educational aspect of your Apprenticeship. If you have completed course work that correlates directly with the Apprenticeship curriculum, you may be eligible to receive credit for the course work you have completed during your Apprenticeship or prior to your Apprenticeship.
For example, Energy Management is a core class for 4th Year Apprentices. If you have taken and completed the aforementioned class at Los Angeles Trade Technical College or at a different institution, you may be eligible to receive credit for the course; therefore, eliminating the need to retake the class again during your tenure as an Apprentice.
This dynamic can positively impact your Apprenticeship as it can present you with the opportunity to broaden your education and training by taking more sophisticated and advanced courses designed to uplift and strengthen your foundation as an Apprentice Stationary Engineer. If this message pertains to you and you have completed course work correlating with your Apprenticeship curriculum, please follow instructions in order to successfully get this process underway.
You will be required to complete the following:
1. Complete the 2 step e-admission registrations process where you receive an alphanumeric code, followed by your official LATTC Student Identification #.
2. If you have completed a course(s) at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, you will be required to obtain your unofficial transcripts from the LATTC and submit them to the JATC for our review.
3. If you have completed a course(s) at another institution or college/university, please obtain your official transcripts and submit them to the JATC for our review.
*Disclosure: Upon receipt of all documentation, the final approval will be determined upon an extensive review of student transcripts and records by LATTC personnel. You will be notified of the final decision by Local 501 staff.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at (213) 385-2889 ext. #115 or #116, or at JATC-LAinfo@local501.org and we will assist you in any which way we can.

Confined Spaces 101 App (Now for Apple and Android)
The IUOE National Training Fund Confined Spaces 101 App is now available for Android users (apple coming soon). OSHA provides guidance on general-industry-related Confined Spaces and Permit-Required Confined Spaces in the form of a decision tree or flow chart. We decided it would be convenient to provide a mobile version with helpful guidance along the way. Please do not confuse the guidance provided here from OSHA 29 CFR §1910.146 for General Industry with the guidance for confined space for Construction (29 CFR §1926.21). The Confined Spaces 101 app is free and available today.
News: Apprenticeship Graduation
Congratulations to all of our apprentices who completed our program in 2014 and 2015. These apprentices worked full time jobs in the Stationary Engineering field while going through our four-year accredited educational program. It is no surprise that many of our graduates become leaders in our industry. We have pictures of some of our graduates posted here.

NIOSH Ladder Safety App
This app turns your smartphone into a level and tells you if your ladder is set at the proper angle. It also covers ladder safety information.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is dedicated to ensure the safety of extension-ladder users by developing and disseminating an easy-to-use interactive ladder safety application for smart phones. The NIOSH Ladder Safety application features a multimodal indicator, which uses visual and sound signals to assist the user in positioning an extension ladder at an optimal angle. Furthermore, the application provides graphic-oriented interactive reference materials, safety guidelines and checklists for extension ladder selection, inspection, accessorizing, and use. The application is intended to help a wide range of ladder users, employers, and safety professionals, with their ladder-related safety needs. The ladder safety app is also 508 compliant.
